Clive Emson Auctioneers is pleased to welcome men aged 50 to 80 to register for a free, simple, and potentially life-saving screening check as sponsors of a PSA testing event hosted at St Mary's Stadium, Southampton, on Saturday, July 19th, 2025, from 10 am to 3 pm.

With many of our clients falling into the at-risk group for prostate cancer and having also seen the effects of this awful disease firsthand, we’re helping to facilitate 500 complimentary, non-invasive blood tests to help catch more cases earlier.

We believe that Prostate cancer is avoidable with proactive planning. 90% of those diagnosed up to the age of 64 will survive for at least ten years or more, so catching it early is key. Remember:

  • The test is painless - no internal examination required
  • The test is FREE, although donations are welcome to help with the cost
  • Registration is needed - Local men are welcome to register for an appointment slot here. Advanced registration is essential.

Not in Southampton? Testing will soon be available across all of our local communities, working closely with local partners and charities. Contact us if this is of interest.

In what will be the largest prostate health testing session of its kind over one day in the Southampton region, the mass screening is a collaboration between a charity, a membership organisation and our local Clive Emson branch. We’re delighted to be working alongside:

  • The Prostate Cancer Support Organisation (PCaSO), a registered charity supporting people and their families living with prostate cancer
  • Southampton FC, who have kindly donated the use of the stadium free of charge

The screening checks are available for men aged 50 to 80, although those with a family history of prostate cancer or with a black ethnicity can register from age 40.

PSA tests are quick and simple and avoid the need for an internal examination, something which puts thousands of men eligible for screening tests off and can mean that diagnoses are found later, when early interventions are no longer possible.

How will the screening process work?

Prostate cancer is a devastating disease and, unfortunately, often asymptomatic, which means sufferers may not be aware they have a health condition until the cancer has become more advanced.

The screening process detects early signs of the disease as follows:

  • PSA tests involve a small blood sample taken from the arm
  • Results are available within five to ten days
  • The test does not diagnose prostate cancer but identifies raised PSA levels to determine whether further checks are needed.

Elevated PSA levels can also sometimes be linked to other non-cancerous conditions, including infections. This ensures that anybody with elevated PSA levels who may require treatment can act quickly to protect their health and future.

While every participant, of course, hopes for a clear screening test, the reality is that checking 500 men is likely to help identify earlier-stage diagnoses for 10+ people, a potentially life-saving step with significantly higher recovery rates for those diagnosed early.

Cancer Research UK figures indicate that as many as 12,000 men a year die from prostate cancer (that’s 33 a day). However, with earlier diagnoses and ever-advancing treatments, the outlook is fast improving, with 90% of those diagnosed up to the age of 64 surviving for at least ten years or more.

Getting your (or your loved ones) PSA levels checked isn’t just a worthwhile use of your time if you have a history of prostate cancer in your family – it gives you a free, proactive way to take charge of your health and either seek rapid treatment or rest assured if your screening test was negative.

Still, screening checks are the only easy, fast testing process that ensures any underlying cause of higher-than-normal PSA levels is properly investigated and treated, enabling men to make informed choices about the right treatment options.

Clive Emson Auctioneers In the Community: Why Prostate Cancer Prevention is close to our hearts

Our role as auctioneers is to support buyers and sellers across Hampshire and the other areas we serve. As long-established professionals working in Southampton, we felt that sponsoring a free screening event was a positive way to contribute to the local community, but also, a fitting tribute to our staff members' family members.

Rob Marchant, one of our auctioneers and regional directors, experienced the sad passing of his uncle from prostate cancer, which has inspired us to take action, recognising that an earlier diagnosis through a screening check may have meant a very different outcome.

Rob Says: “Our firm is backing this event because it will save lives – an uncle died of prostate cancer - it may well have been avoidable if this kind of screening event had been available to him.

“I’ve been told that the event may even identify upwards of 10 men who are at an early stage of the disease – this could be a lifesaving visit if there is earlier diagnosis and higher survival.”

All efforts to combat avoidable later diagnoses of this terrible disease are a worthwhile cause, and we are grateful for the opportunity to do our part.

We are encouraging all men in Southampton aged 50 or above, or those in demographics with a higher prevalence of prostate cancer, to take this opportunity to attend with a quick, painless blood test that could save a life.
